Dale Shelnut (July 29, 1935 - May 11, 1983)
Dale Shelnut was born July 29, 1935 near Guin, Alabama. He began his career in 1951 with the Rhythm Masters. He joined the Tennesseans Quartet but left in 1963 to join the Dixie Echoes as their lead singer. He was also a soloist on the Gospel Singing Jubilee television program.
Dale became the owner of the Dixie Echoes in the late 1960s. For the next fifteen years the Dixie Echoes were near the top of the Southern Gospel industry. Dale passed away of a heart attack in 1983 at the young age of 47.
